“It’s a celebration when someone secures housing and no longer needs a locker to store their things.”

This is Adrian, one of our dedicated case facilitators.

He provides vital support and assistance to people in need, from answering calls and conducting housing assessments to helping individuals navigate various housing options.

Adrian’s job revolves around three main tasks: social housing applications, private rental assistance, and connecting clients with housing support services for shelter access and emergencies.

“One of the heart-warming impacts I’ve seen is through the locker system we provide for people experiencing homelessness,” he said.

“When someone secures housing and no longer needs the locker to store their items, it’s a celebration as they make room for someone else who is in need.

“It might seem small, but it signifies progress and the positive impact of finding stable housing.

“I really enjoy helping clients discover programs and resources they may not have known about and exploring alternative options.

Adrian recalls a client who initially sought social housing because she thought it was her only option, but after exploring alternatives, he helped her into a private rental incentive scheme.

“She was so happy to find a suitable housing solution and was empowered to move forward with her life,” he said.

Adrian finds great fulfilment in assisting individuals in immediate crises through phone calls or face-to-face interactions.

He is well aware of the struggles faced by young Tasmanians in finding affordable housing.

“Rental availability and affordability are major obstacles that continue to lead to a youth housing crisis and homelessness in Tasmania,” he said.

To help address this issue, we’ve introduced a pilot rental support program called Jump Start, designed specifically for 18–24-year-olds who are ready for independent living while working or pursuing a trade.

“It’s exciting to be part of an organisation like Colony 47 that offers a range of services tailored to different demographics and housing situations,” he said.

Adrian encourages everyone to reach out and engage in a thorough assessment to find the best and most appropriate support for them.

“If you or someone you know needs housing assistance, please don’t hesitate to connect with us. Together, we can make a plan that considers what you want and the options available to you,” he said.
