On December 25th every year Colony 47, enjoys providing a traditional lunch, companionship and the spirit of Christmas for Tasmanians in the south of the state.
The lunch is attended by over 350 people each year and could not be provided without the amazing support from volunteers and local businesses and individuals. Over 120 volunteers assist with the preparation of the food, hall set up, present wrapping, table hosting and the big post event clean up. Local producers and suppliers help with the donation of turkeys, chickens and hams which are complemented by fresh vegetables and deserts. There are also vegetarian meals provided.
Colony 47 is a beneficiary of the ABC Giving Tree and with this and the amazing present donations from many Tasmanian businesses, families and individuals we are able to provide each guest with a present. Santa makes an appearance on the day to help distribute these.
The call for volunteers each year goes out in September via website and Facebook page.
