Can you remember 2004? Well, looking back, these cool things happened:
- Mark Zuckerberg launched Facebook from his Harvard dorm room,
- Google introduced free email service Gmail,
- Scrabble was introduced into the National Toy Hall of Fame,
- The Soprano’s was the top show,
- ‘What about me’ from Shannon Noll was the biggest song of the year, and
Our beloved Didi started with Colony 47!
That’s right, while all the above are fun things of note, we believe we win.
We sat down with Didi and asked her about the journey.
Tell us a little bit about your career, Didi?
20 years ago, I started in the Colony Outreach Support Services (COSS) team. My first role was supporting people to meet their housing goals. This included helping them to find short-, medium- and long-term accommodation.
After spending some time in the team, I then moved into the Team Leader position looking after the COSS team.
Eventually, the COSS and Colony Assistance for Housing (CASH) programs merged into what is known today as Housing Connect.
I was lucky enough to become the Local Area Coordinator responsible for promoting the new service with partners and in the community and help maintain stakeholder relationships. It was a great job! I was then appointed Manager and finally became the Executive Manager of the programs that fall under this umbrella.
What do you love about working with us?
While it hasn’t always been the case, I love the fact we work bottom up. The Executive Team are proud to be the voice of the workers, who help set our goals and are on the ground looking for solutions.
I believe there is a connectivity between all staff and programs that allows us to strategise better and reach more goals.
Do you think things have changed much in the last 20 years?
While I do think many things have changed, I recall Jim coming in not long ago and presenting a session to the social work students we were working with at the time.
It was great to hear how we started and to know that we’re still on the right track – we are still trying to make a difference and help those who need it most.
Do you have a favourite memory?
Hmmm, I don’t have one favourite memory, however it makes me really happy anytime someone shares that Colony 47 has helped them have a good life.
Congratulations Didi on reaching this wonderful milestone with us and thank you for everything you do. We love working with you!
