Colony 47’s Housing Connect Front Door is for anyone who is, or at risk of being, homeless in Southern Tasmania. This service is essential to providing several services in Tasmania’s current housing crisis.
Crisis Support
Front door provides immediate crisis intervention by supporting people into safe short-term accommodation options when they do not have a safe place to stay.
Private Rental Assistance
Front Door supports people with bond, rent advancements, rent debt and removals assistance. This allows people to sign new private rental tenancies or remain in their current private rental.
Case Management
Front door refers people for ongoing case management to Colony 47’s Housing Connect Support partners.
Social Housing applications
Front door creates and updates applications for Public Housing, Community Housing, Aboriginal Housing, and the Private Rental Incentive Scheme.
Information Support
Front Door provides information, advice, and referrals to various services such as: emergency relief, family violence, mental Health, financial assistance, pet boarding, legal support and others.
Outreach support
We regularly attend local service spaces to offer outreach support to those who need it. Currently these spaces include Safe Day Space, Mental Health Hub and the Aboriginal Health Service.
Housing Connect is funded by the Tasmanian Government via Homes Tasmania.

During the 2022-23 financial year, we:
Received 35,589 enquiries.
Safely placed 152 households into safe short-term accommodation.
Paid a record 927 bonds and 187 rent arrears to establish and secure tenancies.
Sent 1,999 referrals to Housing Connect Support for ongoing case management.
Facilitated 147 referrals to Safe Space and other shelters.
