Luke, originally from South Australia, also lived in Queensland for 8 years before deciding to settle in Tasmania after falling in love with the lifestyle here.

Another of the young men moving into a share house, Luke has been working with housemates Will and Bodhi for a short time and is moving down to work on the New Bridgewater Bridge project.

Employer McConnell Dowell reached out to us when the project started to see if we could assist with housing barriers for those out of the area, considering the number of skilled workers required.

Together we found our JumpStart program was the perfect fit for those young people who were starting work and looking for a place to stay.

This provided a great solution for Luke who had been struggling to find housing and accommodation for some time in Tasmania.

“JumpStart provides me with secure accommodation, in a safe spot”, says Luke. “It’s close to work and the city and in a stunning new house!”

While each of the young men living in the house have their own car, they are planning on carpooling where possible, so they can save even more money.

We asked Luke to tell us a bit more:

  • Favourite movie is Spider-man,
  • wants to mow the lawns,
  • packs a salad wrap for lunch,
  • can cook a chicken curry,
  • loves watching AFL and reading biographies,
  • enjoys playing Guess Who.

Are you ready for independent living?
