National Volunteer Week is being celebrated from 20-27 May 2024.

And so, this week, we’re reflecting on those who have volunteered with us over the last 12 months, our last known Colony 47 volunteers!

During this past year we’ve had hundreds of kind people help us with our Community Christmas Lunch, setting up share houses, and providing maintenance, gardening and other help across our wide range of programs.

We are truly thankful for your commitment towards making a positive impact on people’s lives.

A word from some young volunteers!

When we were thinking about how to celebrate Volunteer Week, we thought about the next generation of helpers and what they thought about their time with us. A massive thank you to Ari and Joey who jumped at the chance to let us know their thoughts.

Ari (9)

How many years have you volunteered for our Christmas Lunch? This was my first.

What made you want to volunteer? To help homeless people of Hobart and hopefully bring joy to people who haven’t had a good year.

If this was your first year, would you want to volunteer again? Yes.

Do you have a standout memory of the day? When I gave this present to a little girl, and she screamed with joy when she opened it. I felt so happy inside.

How did you feel at the end of the event? Happy and tired.

Do you think these events in the community are important? Absolutely. It brings joy to people who might be having a tough time or are lonely.

What did you tell your friends about the day? I didn’t talk to them about it.

How could we make it better? I was thinking we could bring more activities for the kids this year.

Thank you so much Ari for your time on Christmas Day and for helping us make a difference!
